- Estradiol is a prescription hormone replacement therapy specifically designed to treat the localized symptoms of menopause. As women approach menopause, the body’s natural production of estrogen decreases, which can lead to thinning, drying, and inflammation of the vaginal walls. This condition, known as vulvovaginal atrophy, can cause significant discomfort, irritation, and pain. Estradiol provides a low dose of estrogen to alleviate these symptoms effectively.
- Progesterone is chemically identical to the hormone naturally produced in the body. They are primarily prescribed for postmenopausal women who are taking estrogen to manage symptoms of menopause. In this context, progesterone helps prevent the overgrowth of the uterine lining (endometrial hyperplasia), a condition that can increase the risk of uterine cancer. Additionally, this medication is used to restore normal menstrual periods in women whose cycles have stopped prematurely due to a lack of natural progesterone.
- Testosterone are a form of hormone replacement therapy designed to supplement or replace the natural testosterone that is absent or produced in inadequate amounts by the body. The therapy aims to alleviate symptoms such as decreased libido, fatigue, and loss of muscle mass, helping to restore physiological functions that are dependent on this crucial hormone.
How it Works
Estriadol
- By replenishing estrogen levels in this targeted way, the estrogen reverses the atrophic changes caused by menopause, which in turn reduces dryness, alleviates pain during intercourse, and can help decrease the risk of related urinary tract infections.
Progesterone
- Progesterone’s main role is to prepare the lining of the uterus (the endometrium) for pregnancy after ovulation. When used as part of hormone replacement therapy, progesterone counteracts estrogen’s continuous stimulation of the endometrium. This leads to a controlled shedding of the lining, similar to a menstrual cycle, which prevents it from becoming too thick. For treating menstrual irregularities, providing progesterone helps mimic the natural hormonal cycle, signaling the uterus to shed its lining and thereby re-establishing a more regular pattern of periods.
Testosterone
- This medication works by introducing a synthetic form of testosterone into the body, which functions identically to the naturally produced hormone. The testosterone is gradually released into the bloodstream, where it travels throughout the body to bind with androgen receptors in various tissues. This process helps to initiate and maintain the normal development and function of male sexual characteristics and supports overall health by influencing muscle mass, bone density, and red blood cell production.
Usage and Safety
Estriadol
- Before using this medication, it is essential to discuss your medical history with our providers, especially if you have a history of cancer, blood clots, or liver disease. It’s important to be aware of potential side effects, which can include vaginal irritation, breast tenderness, and headaches. Our regularly scheduled check-ups are necessary to ensure the treatment remains appropriate for you.
Progesterone
- Progesterone are typically taken orally, once daily at bedtime, as they can cause significant drowsiness and dizziness. The dosing schedule may be continuous or cyclical (for a certain number of days each month), as determined by your healthcare provider. It is crucial to inform your doctor of your complete medical history, particularly any history of breast cancer, liver disease, or blood clots.
Testosterone
- Testosterone should only be administered by a healthcare professional or, if instructed, self-injected after proper training on the correct technique. The dosage and frequency are determined by a physician based on the patient’s specific condition and testosterone levels. It is critical to adhere to the prescribed schedule and to rotate injection sites to prevent skin irritation or other local reactions. Patients should inform their doctor of their complete medical history, including any history of heart, kidney, or liver disease, or sleep apnea, as testosterone therapy can worsen these conditions. Regular blood tests and follow-up appointments are necessary to monitor treatment progress, check for potential side effects such as increased red blood cell count or changes in cholesterol levels, and adjust the dosage as needed.

Lab Fees for Hormone Evaluation
Laboratory tests required for evaluating eligibility for testosterone or hormone therapy are included in the treatment plan at no additional cost. If a patient meets the clinical criteria and qualifies for testosterone or hormone therapy, the lab fees will be covered by the plan and will not be billed to the patient. Should the evaluation determine that the patient does not qualify for therapy, standard laboratory pricing of $109 will apply and the patient will be responsible for those costs.
